Steve Foley retires

Safety Steve Foley announces his retirement. “I first thought about retirement after the Super Bowl,” Foley said. “I decided not to make any decisions hastily. I decided to let it go and see if the desire to come back was really there. It wasn’t.”

“It’s like losing a son,” defensive coordinator Joe Collier said. “He was our top intercep tor. He’s one of the best players we’ve ever had. He was one of the best pass-defense safeties I’ve ever had. He was one of the smartest players I’ve ever coached.” Collier called Foley the “quarterback of the defense,” and noted that the only losing season Foley saw was when he was injured (1982).
