In front of a crowd of 18,372 that filled barely half of the expanded Bears Stadium, Denver defeated the Oakland Raiders 31-14 to move to 3-1.

It was the Broncos’ first home game after opening with three consecutive road games — and began a five-game homestead that saw the team’s performance lag, and attendance along with it.

A 31-24 win over Boston in the third game of the homestand moved the Broncos to 4-2. But it proved to be the last win of the season, and the Broncos ended the year on an 0-7-1 run that doomed them to a 4-9-1 finish.
